The key points:
- British grown and processed yarn
- Soap is bio-degradable
- Dyed with homegrown organic plant dyes
Be aware
Once a specific colour is gone, it is gone! Due to the nature of natural dyes (the dye pigment varies with weather and time of day it is harvested), it is impossible to exactly colour match, although I can get close. Therefore, if you see something you love don’t hesitate to buy and make sure you order enough for your project.
The colours in the photos are the best match I can make, but there is variation between screens and devices.

Kent / Romney Sheep
The original Romney Marsh sheep were developed on low lying land in Kent and Sussex, adjoining the English Channel. The area is, exposed and isolated, so that a hardy breed of sheep was produced requiring the minimum of attention. The breed expanded over the rest of the South East of England and became known as Kent Sheep. It then spread all over the world and the name Romney came into general use.
The wool is a demi-lustre of excellent quality and staple, shearing a heavy even fleece, and is considered one of the best British wools, highly suitable for the manufacture of cloths, blankets, knitting yarns and felts. It is also desirable as an ‘improver’ fibre for quality carpet manufacture.
My first handspun jumper (I still wear it in winter over 30 years on) was spun from a Kent fleece by my mother. It even survived my trip around the World with me, keeping me warm in the Himalayas and the mountains of New Zealand, both in Winter….
Care
If dyed with Weld or Madder, the yarn will have been heated to boiling point and simmered for up to an hour. Therefore most possible shrinkage will have occurred.
I am brave, because I wash my wool in the washing machine on a wool wash with specialist wool care soap. I also add some hair conditioner for the final conditioning rinse to keep the yarn soft.
If you are not so brave, then please hand wash in warm water, using the wool care soap and hair conditioner to maintain the soft feel of the wool.
I have written an article on How to Wash Wool
